[Book Summary] : The 4C’s Formula
I read The 4C’s Formula: Commitment, Courage, Capability and Confidence [1] book authored by Dan Sullivan[2]. Given below is my take-away from this book.
Commitment
The first stage of this formula is making a Commitment. When you commit you should make this visible to others as well, thereby you will forced take actions toward it. This also informally get others to help you to achieve the goal.
Courage
Once you commit and make it public, you will feel the fear of a possibility of failing and risking your reputation. This will make you quickly move to second stage of exhibiting Courage to take actions to realize the Commitment.
Capability
Once you take actions to realize the Commitment, you will be gradually develop new skills which was not there with you before. This is called the Capability stage.
Confidence
Once you gained new Capabilities and see results it generate, your Confidence about yourself will grow. This is the forth stage of the 4C’s formula.
Next Commitment
Some people will relax after achieving the initial goal (Commitment) set by themself. This is a very dangerous tendency, because Confidence will start dropping once the original Commitment is achieved.
Therefore, Dan advice us to go for the next Commitment to so that Confidence about our Capability going after Commitments will not drop down.
Check Your Past
When you look at the past and see the path taken reach your current skills and status, you will see that you have gone the formula given by Dan.
This ability is already in you. What this book has done is to give some names for the stages of this transformation process.
Therefore, have Courage to undergo this transformation and be Committed go for the next level of Capability and have the Confidence that you will be good at executing this process over and over again.
