You are the Creator of Time ?

You should not approach time a scarce resource. You should come out the concept that, you exist separately from time. Also that time the master and you are the slave. As  Gay Hendricks [1] in his book The Big Leap [2] explains, that vast majority of people experience Newtonian time, where we assume that time exists separately and it constantly exerting pressure on us.

Gay goes on to explain new way of looking at time, which he calls as Einstein time where you take the ownership of your time. This shift in view makes you the source and the creator of time.

This sounds quite strange and unfamiliar to most of us. I will try to explain this concept using the following story.

Lets assume that while you are doing some office or project work, your kid interrupts that work, asking to play with her. You refuse saying that you do not have time and continue working. After some time, you hear a loud noise and see your kid fallen unconscious on the ground. Now, you postpone the work and rush the kid to the hospital. You see now, that time you did not have initially for the kid, was created to take her to the hospital. Also while going to the hospital, you feel upset thinking about not adequately spending time with your kid because of the project.

Similarly, you hear about an accident in another country while at work but do not get upset about it and you just continue the work as usual.

As given in the above narrative, feeling bad when the kid is sick shows that you are not adequately spending time with the kid. Due to this, you experience stress and friction in this area. The stress will disappear the moment you accept this part and claim ownership of it. Ones you claim the ownership of any area, you will find efficient mechanisms to spend time on them.

Basically, you operate in Einstein time when you identify, your priorities and take ownership of them.

You may start to experience Einstein time by following the steps given below.

1. Convince yourself that you are the creator of time and start acting as if it is true.

2. Be aware of events, where you use similar phrases indicated below and decide whether they are related to your priorities.
“I wish I had time to stop and chat, but I’m in a hurry.”
“Where did the time go?”
“There simply aren’t enough hours in the day.”
“If only I’d gotten another hour of sleep.”
“Love to talk but I’ve gotta run...”
“I have to get to the bank before...”

If the above thoughts happen on events which are associated with your priorities, take ownership of these events and give adequate attention to them.

3. Finally, put yourself on a radical diet by completely abstaining from complaining about time using phrases pointed above.

Continuously following the process explained above will orient you towards experiencing Einstein time eventually, and reap the benefits given below:

  • You will get more done in less time.
  • You will enjoy plenty of time and abundant energy for your most important creative activities.
  • You will discover your unique abilities and how to express them.
  • You will feel good inside.
